Genial Children Setting Up Records

On July 10, 2004, the All-Russian Exhibition of Scientific and Technical Creative Work of Youth (NTTM) 2004 has finished its 3-day work in 2004. Based on the contest results, the first prize was awarded to Mr. Anton Shashlov (Moscow State Technical (Bauman) University) for the best innovation project at STCWY 2004. He presented work entitled Application of Short-Hand and Cryptographic Tools for Electronic Correspondence Protection. Mail Server Family for Servers of Power Tools Mail Services.

The second prize was awarded to Mr. Pavel Ukharov (Moscow State Technology and Management University) for work entitled Management System Adaptive Tuning; whereas the third prize, to Ms. Galina Federova (Novosibirsk State Architectural and Construction University) for work entitled Mortgage Lending: Analysis, Problems, Social and Economic Assessment. Mementos, digital cameras and mp3 players were given to the winners.

The NTTM 2004 Scientific Committee that comprised 71 persons, including 8 academicians, 24 Sc. Ds, 28 candidates for Sc. D, 5 assistant professors and 2 senior scientists estimated work and summarized the contest results. The Scientific Committee was headed by Mr. Igor Borissovich Fedorov, correspondent member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sc. D. in Technical Sciences, Professor, Principal of the Moscow State Technical (M.E. Bauman) University, Chairman of the Board of Moscow and Moscow Region High School Principals, President of the Moscow High School Association.

Mr. S.A. Mescheriakov, A.V. Vakulenko, A.A. Ozolin (Physical and Mathematical Lyceum No. 1532 at the Moscow Engineering and Physical College; Successor secondary comprehensive school) won in the Applied Sciences category of the special contest of In the Science World magazine with the project entitled Reclamation of Luminescent Lamps as a Methods of Mercury Environmental Pollution Reduction. Ms. A.A. Nakhodneva (Yaroslavl State Pedagogical (K.D. Ushinsky) University) won in the Fundamental Sciences category with the project entitled Planet Satellite Search Method. Mr. D.L. Pevzner (Yaroslavl State Inter-Regional Town-Construction and Management College) won in the Original Project category with the project entitled Bicycle with Catenary Variable-Speed Gear. The same project won in the Prize for the Youngest Participant category. Mr. Alexander Tsyganov (secondary comprehensive school No. 5, Luga, Leningrad Region) won in the For the Most Fantastic Project category with the Ocean Launching Site.

The arrangers of NTTM 2004 are the Moscow Government, the Board of Moscow and Moscow Region High School Principals, GAO VVC. Activities of Science and Education OP CJSC arranges work of NTTM Scientific Committee.

Youth Creative Work in the 21st Century: Realities and Prospects, all-Russian conference, was held as part of the exhibition. Mr. Sergey Petrovich Kapitsa, Professor, anchorperson of the Obvious and Improbable program, Mr. Nikolay Ivanovich Bulaev, Chairman of the RF State Duma Education and Science Committee, and other Russia's top scientists and educationalists also attended the event.

Participants in the contest were young people aged from 12 to 27. 810 students, schoolchildren, students of lyceums and extended education institutions from 56 cities and towns. 42 Russia's regions presented 472 projects (76 high schools, 25 extended education institutions, 17 secondary schools, 15 secondary professional educational institutions).

As Moscow Mayor Yury M. Luzhkov stated at the exhibition, "Development of innovations is and will always be our top-priority objective in various areas of science and technology. For this nation to develop and scale up its economic and scientific potential, for "brains not to drain abroad", we should pay special attention to young and talented scientists and researchers offering their inventions. We should encourage young talents and value them. That's why the Moscow Government has always paid particular attention to arrangement of the annual exhibition of scientific and technical creative work of youth – NTTM at VVC.
